The latest version of a classic truck. Toyota has been constantly improving the Hi-Lux throughout its life, adding a 3.0 diesel to the wheezy 2.5 then introducing higher-powered versions and ever-better auto boxes. Kit levels on top models are impressive, as are the vehicle’s ride and handling on tarmac and its sure-footed agility off-road.

Buyer beware!
Early models with the lower-powered diesel engine are staggeringly slow on the motorway.
