FORD Explorer (used) review

1. What Is It?

Date Published: 21st January 2011

Price £500-£2000
Dates 1997-2002

Ford’s attempt to steal sales from the Jeep Cherokee. Big, lounge-like American comfort standards and plenty of kit gave it lazy appeal, as did a 4.0 petrol engine which struggles to beat 20mpg. Sales were tiny, so it’s very rare now and shouldn’t be worth more than £2000.

Buyer beware!
Check the electrics, and assume the suspension bushes will need replacing. It might be a Ford, but it won’t be like a Fiesta to buy parts for.

+ Big, comfy and good off-road
- Wafty, lardy and uneconomical
