VOLKSWAGEN Touareg review

1. To Live With

Date Published: 17th December 2010

Launched in the second half of 2010, the new Touareg is a little less dramatic and a lot more practical. It’s a more civilised vehicle as a result; purists may rue the loss of low box on all but one version, but a more modern interior and much-improved fuel efficiency are what really matters.

Here and there, the materials in the Touareg’s cabin don’t quite feel like they belong in a premium SUV. But there’s no doubting the quality of fit and finish throughout, nor the breadth of standard equipment. Stowage areas are generally excellent, and the rear seats fold down with an easy one-shot mechanism – though the load floor they create isn’t flat, and has an awkward step in it.

The seats also slide back and forth to aid knee room, and can be dropped remotely using a button beneath the tailgate. You need to remove the centre headrest to get a proper view in your mirror, though.
