VOLKSWAGEN Tiguan review

The Tiguan is aimed at the premium end of the compact SUV market, and top models combine quality materials and build with loads of equipment. All the same, whichever version you go for you’re likely to spend a couple of grand on optional kit – though you’ll also get that sort of money off list price by giving your dealer a hard time.

Class is not achieved by kit alone, though, and our testers commented on the feeling of understated quality in the Tiguan’s cabin. Its dash has a typically austere VW layout, with soft-touch trim and rock-solid controls giving the impression that it’ll last forever.

We were impressed by its practicality, too, thanks to a good combination of glovebox, cubby, door pocket and console tray space. At the back, larger items go in easily thanks to an easy one-shot folding rear seat which creates a totally flat floor. You have to move the front seats forward to operate it, though, which caused a few grumbles, as did the limited rear-seat legroom behind a tall driver.
