People have been modifying Jimnys for off-roading for such a long time, it’s easy to forget that Suzuki’s pint-sized truck is still available new as a 4x4-about-town. Our testers loved it for its groovy attitude and keepin’-it-real spec, but didn’t think so much of what happened when they got inside.
Here, most found it painfully cramped, with limited legroom and a pinched-upright seating position. You do get a decent view out, though, and our testers liked the clear simplicity of the dash, though one pointed out that this is down to the lack of equipment in the vehicle as much as anything else.
Certainly, there’s not a lot of space on its rather brittle looking plastic centre stack for complex gadgetry, and it’s the same story when it comes to oddment stowage. You don’t get a cubby box as such, just a centre console with a shallow bin and a couple of cup holders, and the door pockets are too narrow to be of much use. There’s a large open tray in the dash above the glovebox, but without a grippy base it’s little use for anything.
In the back, legroom got a resounding thumbs-down from our testers, as did the seats themselves which are small, cramped and uncomfortable. They do drop down to create a luggage space of sorts, though, albeit one which left our testers unimpressed by its size and shape.
