SSANGYONG Rexton review

1. To Live With

Date Published: 17th December 2010

The first thing one of our testers noted was that living with such an ugly lump might take some doing. Get past that, though, and there’s a coarse, truck-like appeal to the Rexton’s simple, old-style off-road approach.

In the cabin, the plastics feel austere rather than cheap, though there’s not always much logic to the layout. It’s more sturdily made than it looks, too, and the big buttons and controls are very clear if hardly stylish.

Stowage isn’t great, though, with a small glovebox and pointlessly thin door pockets. Further evidence that we’re looking at packaging from a bygone era here comes from the rear seats, which fold and tumble to rob a lot of room form what should be a spacious cargo bay.
