On this site you'll also find reviews of the Citroën C-Crosser and the Peugeot 4007. Both are basically rebadged Outlanders, so if you’re shopping for the Mitsubishi and have turned straight to this review, you should check them out too.
If time’s not on your side, though, the main thing all out testers would tell you is that if you’re interested because you need a seven-seater, you need to forget it now. The third row is a complete waste of space and money, and if you ever put someone in it you should be as ashamed of yourself as these three manufacturers ought to be for selling something so lamentable.
As a five-seater with a big hidden compartment where the third row stows under the floor, the Outlander would actually be a good prospect. The second row had excellent legroom for a vehicle of this size, and the horizontally split tailgate creates a useful slide for loading cargo. Up front, the dash is neatly laid out and oddment stowage impressed all our testers, not least because there are five drinks holders accessible from the driver’s seat!
Material quality is hit and miss, though, as is the standard of fit in the cabin. Testers commented on our vehicle’s nice, soft leather seats – but also on the lack of support they provided.
