MERCEDES M-Class review

1. To Live With

There wasn’t a great deal of comment about the ML’s exterior, which can be considered a comment in itself. But one tester did say he thought it would be ‘faceless’ without a Mercedes badge.

It does have a Mercedes badge, though, as well as the standard of build and materials that goes with it. The dash layout feels fresh, clear and classy, despite the amount of controls crammed into it, and it’s an easy cabin to settle into. Interestingly, one tester commented that when he was carrying a passenger in the ML, she said she could tell from his body language that he liked it.

The back is a nice place to be, too, with decent knee room and lots of space around your head. Dropping the seats is easy, and the cargo bay you get as a result is impressively large.

Our testers were divided, though, on the Merc’s equipment levels. Some pointed out that a lot is standard on all models, and that’s hard to argue with. But some must-have items are only on the options list – and at stratospheric prices.
