You couldn’t accuse our testers of fearing sounding like a stuck record. Their first comments about the Sport all related to its image – ‘footballer,’ to quote many, even ‘proceeds of crime’ in the words of one.
See past that, and the version tested here contained a lovely take on an interior that’s always won praise, with one of the most natural wood treatments we’ve seen. Its layout is pleasingly simple, especially with so many functions to control, and a good combination of door pocket, cubby and glovebox stowage makes it as practical as it is stylish.
More than one tester compared it favourably to the Range Rover here, and it’s the same story in the back where legroom is far superior. Headroom is excellent, too, and even with the sombre black leather treatment in our test car it’s cheerfully full of light.
You stow the rear seats by tilting the squabs forward and folding the backs down, which is easy enough but means waiting for the electric front seats to whirr out of the way. The result, though, is a long, flat cargo floor – and beneath the one-piece tailgate is a nice low lip for easy loading.
