The Discovery 4, to give it its proper name, is basically the same as the Disco 3 but with a new engine and a new, more aggressive face. Land Rover would point to a host of further detail changes, of course, but that’s the nub of it.
This, of course, means what we have here is a vehicle that’s won more awards than even Land Rover can keep count of. These include two 4x4 of the Year titles from us (via our erstwhile sister title Planet 4x4), and the unique accolade of Britain’s Most Practical 4x4.
Thus the new, improved Discovery is inevitably one of the favourites for this year’s overall title. As Land Rover moves its product line relentlessly upwards, however, it’s now well into the territory the Range Rover occupied at launch – though in Solihull’s defence, there’s no shortage of even more expensive machinery on test this year.
