KIA Sorento review

1. To Live With

Date Published: 17th December 2010

The Sorento has gone from being a lumpy old truck to a sleek, modern SUV, and our testers commented that its build and practicality live up to standard it sets with its eye-grabbing image. Materials and cabin layout are particularly impressive; it’s one step down from the premium level, but there’s a feeling of quality everywhere and it certainly doesn’t come across as a budget motor.

The seating position is good, too, and that goes for the second and even third rows as well. All 4x4 versions of the Sorento are seven-seaters, and it’s one of the few vehicles you could fill with adults and not have a riot on your hands. Testers were impressed with the leg and head room in every seat; it’s more cramped in the very back, but even here it’s better than some vehicles’ second rows.

Dropping the seats for luggage loading is impressive, too, with a one-shot fold that leaves a big, long cargo bay. They don’t go totally flat, which is a pity, but one tester was moved to say it gets close to Discovery standards, and the praise doesn’t come much higher than that.
