INFINITI EX review

1. To Live With

Date Published: 17th December 2010

As one of our testers put it, the EX is all sport and no utility. That’s not entirely fair, but it gets close to the point of a vehicle that’s stylish both inside and out but scores poorly for practicality.

Its cabin materials and design won it lots of praise, however, and the dash controls are clearly laid out and easy to operate. Oddment stowage is fair, with a decent glovebox and cubby augmented by door pockets which are usable if not especially easy to get your hands into.

In the back, however, legroom is pretty desperate. You sit up nice and tall, so the rising waistline doesn’t obstruct your eyes, but a steeply sloping roof meant our testers still felt cramped.

The EX’s shape is almost more hatchback than station wagon, and this is reflected in a boot that’s tiny when the seats are up – less than 50% more than the Fiat Panda Cross. Things do improve a bit when the seats go down (electrically, natch), but our testers still saw this as a vehicle that puts style well above substance.
