HYUNDAI Santa Fe review

1. To Live With

Date Published: 17th December 2010

The Santa Fe is available in five and seven-seat form, each with a choice of two spec levels and manual or auto gearboxes. There’s only one engine choice, though, a 2.2 turbo-diesel – whose fuel-efficiency is part of what makes it a sensibly cheap vehicle to run.

A high-value purchase price helps here, too, as does a strong warranty and a pretty good kit list, and the ghastly fake wood trim that blighted the interiors of early vehicles has now given way to a carbon effect finish which our testers found, in the words of one, ‘less offensive.’

There was a lukewarm response to the layout of the controls, too, which a couple of testers thought could be more logical. Rear-seat passengers get a fair deal, though, and the second row of seats folds down to leave a long and reasonably flat floor.
