HUMMER H3 review

1. Introduction

Date Published: 4th February 2009

Is the Hummer H3 a vehicle that’s really supposed to be taken seriously? It may be a hugely scaled down version of the Humvee-based H1 that came to encapsulate America’s conspicuous consumption, but there’s something so ridiculously overt about its 'Action Man' styling it’s almost comical.

The joke though is probably now wearing a little thin, as even in the US such excessive looks are rapidly falling from favour. In our far more modest and sensible society, you can only imagine it being driven as a statement of ironic rebellion, though it’s clear from its rarity out on the road that only a small number of people feel the need to express their irreverence in this way.
