Hummer H3 review

2. Engine

Given its brash, confident looks we were hoping it would provide a performance as powerful as its exterior. Engine choice is limited to a single GM Vortec 3.7-litre five-cylinder petrol unit, which has a decent power output but is raucous, crude and inefficient. In terms of basic abilities, if you shove your right foot to the floor as hard as possible, its claimed 0-60mph time of 9.7 seconds seems perfectly plausible, but there is nothing smooth, sophisticated or even exciting about this modest achievement.
The engine was mated to a four-speed autobox on our test model, though a five-speed manual box is also available.
