CITROEN C-Crosser review

The C-Crosser is one of three near-identical 4x4s in this category, the others being the Mitsubishi Outlander and Peugeot 4007. The Japanese company does the manufacturing, and gets sales through the French outfits badging their versions as their own.

This means of course that if one has a flaw, so will the others. And one flaw our testers went at without mercy is a third-row bench seat which barely deserves the name. It’s narrow, flimsy and almost completely devoid of padding; we’re really not sure who you’d actually put in the thing, but they wouldn’t thank you for it.

Elsewhere, a neatly laid out dash contains materials and switchgear of varying quality. Hard plastics predominate, but then for no apparent reason there’s a soft leather cover for the upper glovebox lid.

Talking of leather, the C-Crosser we tested had a nice beige colour scheme which helped lighten up its cabin. The 4007 and Outlander by contrast were all black and dark grey: ‘dowdy’ and ‘sombre’ were two of the words our testers came up with as a result.
